Youth Water Polo in Minnesota
Youth water polo Try-It program in St. Paul organized by Minnesota Water Polo Club, March 2020
OUR CLUB DOES NOT HAVE ANY YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE NOW OR PLANNED IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM OR SCHOOL TO OFFER WATER POLO FOR YOUTH AT ITS LOCAL POOL FACILITIES AND ASK THEM TO REACH OUT TO US FOR SUPPORT AND VOLUNTEERS.
Our Vision
We believe there can and should be a thriving youth water polo culture in Minnesota, and as the only non-profit dedicated to water polo in the state of Minnesota, we have begun to lead the charge since 2020, building on our successful adult Masters program.
Water polo is not only a great year-round exercise option for youth but it also serves as very important alternative to other sports. It is safer than football, hockey, and soccer. You only need a swimsuit to play, which makes water polo inherently more affordable for families of varying economic backgrounds unlike sports that require extensive amounts of equipment purchases. Water polo is a also a team sport, which helps children form leadership, communication and collaboration skills. It’s also a sport that you can play throughout your entire lifetime. Last but not certainly least, water polo is just incredibly fun!
Realizing our vision for youth water polo in Minnesota requires mutual community engagement and partnership. At this time, we do not envision having a youth team under Minnesota Water Polo Club nor are we working in this direction. We want to help foster an ecosystem of youth water polo, so that there are teams and playing opportunities near where children live and go to school. This also allows for competition regionally. We piloted this concept successfully with the City of St. Paul Community Education, but the 2020 COVID pandemic affected our momentum negatively. We have continued to support other local organizations and municipalities in launching youth water polo opportunities in the Twin Cities metro area. We plan to continue to help where we can.
Please note, if you reach out to us via the Contact Us form regarding youth water polo, there is no further information or advice we can provide at this time. Please check with your local pool and community ed offering and encourage them to set something up and reach out to our organization for support.
